August 2022 — Prof. Asle Zaeem is now serving as a Program Director in the National Science Foundation, for the Design of Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (DMREF) program.

July 2022 — Congratulations to Dr. Ghavam Azizi who successfully completed his Ph.D. dissertation defense on “Understanding Multi Scale Defect Formation During Solidification of Alloys by Integrated Computational Modeling.”

April 2022 — Prof. Asle Zaeem is promoted to Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Colorado School of Mines.

April 2022 — Prof. Asle Zaeem received the Excellence in Reviewing Award of Acta Materialia and Scripta Materialia.

September 2021 — CMML received $390K from the National Science Foundation to work on Significant Enhancement of Structural Integrity of Shape Memory Ceramics in High Cycle Fatigue.

September 2021 — CMML received $470K from the Department of Energy – Basic Energy Sciences to work on Multiscale Defect Formation and Domain Switching Behavior in Functional Oxides.

August 2021 Prof. Asle Zaeem is awarded the Ben L. Fryrear Endowed Chair for Innovation and Excellence.

July 2021 — Congratulations to Dr. Hamed Nobarani who successfully completed his Ph.D. dissertation defense on “Atomistic Simulations of Polarization Switching in Ferroelectric Materials.”

April 2021 Prof. Asle Zaeem received the Faculty Research Excellence Award of the Colorado School of Mines. 

April 2021 — Congratulations to Dr. Alireza Toghraee who successfully completed his Ph.D. dissertation defense on “Phase-Field Study of Diffusion Controlled Phenomena: Reorientation of Zirconium Hydrides and Oxidation of Metals.”

September 2020 — CMML received $562K from the National Science Foundation to work on understanding the origination and evolution of defects in solidification of aluminum alloys.

August 2020 — Congratulations to Dr. Jacob Bair, a former Ph.D. student at CMML, who started a new job as a tenure-track assistant professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University.

May 2020 Our recent study on shape memory ceramics, funded by Department of Energy – Basic Energy Sciences, is highlighted by XSEDE. Science Success Story: Supercomputing helps advance zirconia research for future applications.

Jul  2017 — Arezoo Emdadi is awarded 2nd place in the poster contest of ECerS Summer School on Innovative Technologies in the Field of Ceramic Manufacturing ,Budapest, Hungary. Her poster title was Multi-phase field modelling of crack propagation in ZrB2-based composite ceramics.

Mar 2017 — Dr. Asle Zaeem received the 2017 TMS-FEMS Young Leader International Scholar Award. Dr. Zaeem will represent TMS in EUROMAT 2017.

Mar 2017 — Leiren Jarvis is awarded 1st place in Graduate Fellows Poster Competition in Missouri S&T campus. Her poster title was: Extended Finite Element Analysis of the Fracture Behavior of ZrB2-Based Ceramics.
